How to Create Your Future Self

Us humans worry too much trying to figure out how to make others like/notice us, but what we forget is that we have to create a better version of ourselves not because the community expects that from us but because it will make a better place for the future generations and maybe with the s

The current version of ourselves is the conditioned self. The conditioned self comes from our past lived experiences. We have practised thoughts, emotions, reactions, +coping mechanisms unconsciously since childhood.

We as humans have the unique ability to become conscious to the version of ourselves + have the power to create a new version of ourselves more in alignment with who we actually are.

To create our future selves, the first step is always to become conscious (to be present + witness the present version of ourselves without judgement)

It is important to show yourself acceptance + compassion (Something many of us didn’t receive as children) through this process. It is also important to understand that our behaviour + reaction(Regardless of how “dysfunctional”) were created as way to protect ourselves from pain.

Our mind + bodies are more powerful than we’ve been told. To create your future self is to take responsibility for who you are. Through repetition + practise , you’ll create new neural pathways in the brain + new nervous system responses in the body.

Practical examples of how to create your future self:

  1. Situation: Your mother calls you and begins venting and complaining about something when you’re facing your own stressful issues.
Future Self: Pause before reacting. Breathe. “I understand that really feels frustrating. I am actually in the middle of something now., and will call you back when I have more space to listen.

  1. Situation:  You messed up a Presentation at work.
Future Self: Pause before reacting. Breathe. “ I’m human, my worth is not dependent on a single presentation. I need to prioritise rest so that I can give myself the best situation to succeed. I will not judge myself in this moment.
