Your Role
This position will serve as a Field Systems Engineer (SE) for Ciena’s product portfolio, focused in the Australia and New Zealand region. Several activities are implied, matching the various stages of an expected sales cycle, including:
- Pre-Sales customer engagement
- Network and solution design for CIENA products
- Complete network designs for customer application of CIENA networking products
- Drive introduction of new concepts / features into customer networks
- Expertise in using network design and modelling tools
- Prepare of quotes and assist in proposal preparation for all CIENA products using internal tools
- Provide product and technical expertise to support Sales efforts on optical, Routing and Switching products and SDN Management systems
- Serve as a technical resource for customer related issues
- Interface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirements
- Travel might be required
Your Responsibilities
- Works within a cross-functional team in support of Ciena’s Solutions Portfolio in ANZ:
- Works with local sales teams to determine the most effective engagement strategies for near term as well as sustained success within key accounts
- Serves as the primary technical voice to determine and sometimes negotiate the best fit for Ciena’s portfolio in a given customer application or architecture
- Acts as the technical lead, working alongside other engineering/design resources to specify the best technical solution for a given opportunity
- Supports bid responses, as well as technical presentations, demos, and proofs of concept throughout a sales cycle
- Communicates with customers (and channels/partners) across ANZ at a range of levels, to champion Ciena’s solutions. Shows strong ability to communicate a good blend of technology/networking trends, as well as business value of Ciena solutions. This implies frequent and sustained engagement to build and maintain the customer’s trust and confidence during long sales cycles and drive to successful outcome for Ciena.
- Drives technical direction for key opportunities, including solution specification, design, and costing. This includes the ability to debate and discuss technology alternatives with customers and partners to drive to the best balance of features, price, and timeline for a given solution
Requirements
- Solid understanding in fibre optic transmission systems (OTN/WDM)
- Technical knowledge in data networking including understanding of IP/Ethernet and other data networking protocols
- Technical knowledge of SDN Management system
- Good degree of presentation, interpersonal and communications skills
- Proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to respond to RFP’s and communicate technical quotations accurately
- Good knowledge of computers and application programs (e.g., MS Office)
- Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks
- Engineering Degree of equivalent
- English language is mandatory
- Highly motivated technical individual that desires to work on application of advanced transport architectures
- Ability to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop customer solutions
- Ability to develop customer relationships and work well with customer
- Flexible individual that can handle multiple tasks
- Team player
- Minimum of 4 years telecommunications industry experience
