08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills

1. "Tell me a little about yourself."

You should take this opportunity to show your communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely in an organized manner. Because there is no right or wrong answer for this question, it is important to appear friendly.

2. "What are your strengths?"

This is a popular interview question. They want to know what you think of yourself. Although this is a general question, there is a wrong and right answer. The wrong answer is a generic answer saying you are organized and friendly. Although it will not hurt you during the interview, it will certainly not help you either. Answer this question based on the type of job you are applying for.

3. "What are your weaknesses?"

For this answer, you should display a weakness that can be seen as a strength. There are many types of answers that will work. Some answers will be good answers for certain jobs, while the same answer will be a bad answer for a different job. Select an answer that will work for the position you are applying for.

4. "Where do you see yourself in five years?"

This question primarily depends on where you are in your career. A person with 5 years of experience will have different goals than a person with no work experience. This question is asked to see how serious a candidate is about his or her career. Some people might not know their goals, and some people might have goals of becoming rich and retiring early. Those are incorrect answers for this question. The type of answer you want to give is an ambitious answer that shows you really love your career. A good interviewer will read between the lines and find out if a person is going to be a hard worker or just a mediocre one. Being descriptive and shooting for a big goal is something interviewers want to hear.

5. "What do you know about our company?"

A typical job interview question, asked to find out how much company research you have conducted, is "What do you know about this company?" Prepare in advance, and in a word, research, so you can provide relevant and current information about your prospective employer to the interviewer.

6. "Are you good at dealing with change?"

Dealing with change is common in the work place. A simple yes will not be sufficient to impress the interviewer. This is another type of question where everyone will have similar answers. Of course everyone is going to claim being excellent dealing with change. You got to communicate that you are really good at dealing with change.

7. "Do you work well under pressure?"

In most cases, the best answer to this question is answering yes. Working well under pressure is a good trait to have. However, I think if you answer that you work the same with pressure and without pressure, the interviewer will be more impressed. However, you will need to explain in words why this is better.

8. "How do you make important decisions?"

There are many ways to answer this question, and if you have a reasonable method of making decisions, it will probably be sufficient. One answer I thought of included not being afraid of asking your manager. You can follow up by saying even the best needs mentoring, and you always want to improve. So basically, this could work as an answer, but depending on the job, you might have a better shot with an answer like my example.

‘Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?’ I don’t know why interviewers ask this question, because they know the candidate is going to lie or will give whimsical answers like me. When I interviewing as a fresher, I said… ‘In 5 years, I’ll be sitting at your place’ and the moment it left my mouth, I realised what a bullshit answer it was.

I was invited to conduct a session on this very topic at ISB, Hyderabad, but I am also making this video for you because I’ve realised that everybody needs help with answering this question. I’ve given a lot of interviews after that and have taken a lot of interviews and all of them have taught me this…. The answer to this question can set you apart form 50 other equally qualified people sitting outside and can get you the job.

I am making this video because I don’t want you to make the same silly mistake I did. So it doesn’t matter if you are a fresher, an experienced person or a person looking to change your career, today by the end of this video, you’ll know exactly how to answer this question.

Today’s Agenda:
1.  What does the interviewer wants to know about you, through this question?
2.  Common Mistakes we make while answering it.
3.  I’ll give you a simple formula to answer, ‘Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?’ with Sample Answers.
4. But most importantly, towards the end, I’ll give you a Bonus Tip that’ll help you answer this question confidently and make a great first impression.

Let’s start learning! :)

Let’s accept it. Giving interviews sucks. Wearing crisp clothes and telling the interviewer sitting infront of you, how you are a perfect fit for the company confidently, while you are shaking inside is not an easy job.
But don’t worry, because the interviewer was once an interviewee. So even they want you to do well because at the end of the day, they want to hire you. All they are asking, is for you to be prepared. And today, by the end of this video, I am going to get you prepared.
Before we begin, let’s understand this. There are 3 different types of interview questions.
1) Technical 2) Analytical and 3) Behavioural.
If you are applying for I.T. then technical will be about coding, programming etc.
Analytical questions will be like…how many ping-ping bolls can you fit in a Boeing; after you cut a slice from a cake, how will you divide it into equal parts so on and so forth. Through analytical questions they want to know how are your problem solving skills.
And finally, there are behavioural questions. Through these questions the interviewer wants to know …tumne life me kiya kya hai i.e how you’ve handled work situations in the past or about your education.
In my experience around 65-70% of the questions will be behavioural because using them, the interviewer will decide whether you are a good fit for the job or not …and that’s what we are going to nail in this video. So today, we are going to discuss…

Today’s Agenda:

1)      The 8 most commonly asked interview questions:

a) Tell me about yourself
b) Why do you want this job?
c) What are your strengths and weaknesses?
d) Tell me about a challenge or conflict you have faced at work and how you’ve dealt with it?
e) Where do you see yourself in 5 years? (What are your short-term/long term goals?)
f) Are you planning to have children?
g) Do you have any questions for us?
h) Why should we hire you?

2)      We are going to analyse these questions based on a) What the interviewer wants to know b) Common Mistakes we make while answering and c) How to answer this question.

3)      But most importantly, towards the end I’ll give you a Bonus Tip for cracking even the toughest of interviews.

I hope you find the video useful. :)

I still remember my first interview. I was so nervous, I entered the room and the interviewers first question was …. ‘Tell me about yourself.’ In my nervousness, I looked at him and said… “Hi, I’m doing my MBBS”. The problem was….I was an engineering graduate.

I’ve given a lot of interviews after that and I’ve taken interviews too. And all of them have taught me that you need to be prepared for answering…. ‘Tell me about yourself’ because the way you answer it will decide whether the Interviewer will actually listen to you or will switch to Instagram and pretend to listen to you.

Call me crazy but I don’t want you to make the same silly mistake that I did during my first interview. So today, by the end of this video, you will learn how to answer this question confidently, make a great first impression and eventually get the job.

So in today’s video we are going to…

1) Understand what answer the Interviewer wants?
2) I’ll give you a formula to answer ‘Tell me about yourself’ for any job that you are applying.
3) Assuming that English is not your first language. Towards the end, I will give you a few techniques and tell you how you can speak in English fluently.

Just like you, I am ALSO guilty of one-night batting during Interviews! But hey, we all have our reasons to be prepare at the last moment. Which is why in today’s video we are going to see…

Today’s Agenda:

a)     5 Last-minute Interview tips that will help you perform better in your next interview. And that’s not it.
b)     Towards the end, I’ll give you a Bonus Tip that’ll one day help you land a job.

One of the most important things to do after you get an Interview Call is to carefully read the Job Description (JD) carefully!

All of us are guilty of doing this…  Preparing one ‘generic’ resume and emailing it to every company without reading about their job openings.

But now that you’ve gotten an interview call, carefully read the Job Description, because that is the easiest way for you to figure out what’s going on in your interviewer’s mind.

While reading the JD carefully right before your interview, notice what are the minimum qualifications for the job, preferred qualifications, responsibilities, how it describes the company.

The more you read it, the more you’ll understand where there is an overlap between what they want and what your strengths are. And this overlap is what you need to keep re-iterating and reminding them throughout the interview.

Show them how you can solve the problems that they are currently facing. I’ll tell you how to do that effectively in Tip #3. But for now, open your Job Description and read every word carefully…twice.

But before that, if you find our videos useful, make sure you hit that like button because that just motivates us to make more videos.

Happy Learning! :)
