How To Stay Positive During MCO 3.0

Guess who's back, back again. Selangorians and KL-lites will be entering Movement Control Order (MCO) this week for the third time.

This means limited access to family and friends, more people will be working from home and schools will be closed for at least two weeks. This MCO could be extended if the number of cases fail to decrease.

With Raya just around the corner and not being able to "balik kampung" due to the interstate travel ban, it’s understandable if you’re finding things tough right now.

Despite all this, it is important that we try to remain positive and motivated. Here are some tips on how you can achieve that.

1. Have a routine

Having a routine is crucial if you want to stay positive and motivated. Write a list of things you want to achieve before you begin your day. Creating a detailed schedule is a useful habit as it promotes health and wellness through structure and organisation.

If you forget to do something from your list, you can always take note of it and move it to the next day.

2. Exercise

There are many ways to keep fit. Whether it is a HIIT workout, brisk walking, yoga or pilates, all forms of exercise will increase the feelings of positivity.

Exercising helps you feel more energised throughout the day as it gets your heart pumping and stimulates oxygen circulation around your body. This results in you feeling more awake.

3. Pick up a new hobby

Working on a project or picking up a hobby can be a great way of adding structure and fulfilment during this MCO. It can be anything like cooking, baking, drawing or finally working on that DIY project that you have been putting aside. Use this time to achieve something you have always been too busy for.

Remember to have fun and not put too much pressure on yourself to achieve unrealistic tasks.

4. Stay connected with family and friends

We have been here before and we can learn it from the first and second MCO. We know what we missed the most and that is people and connections.

It is vital to stay connected and ensure that you make the most out of online communications. Have a weekly video call with a loved one, organise a group video call with your friends, and participate in online events.

5. Embrace your feelings

Last but not least, you will experience negative feelings from time to time. You must remember it is okay to experience such emotions and you should embrace it. It is only natural that we have these feeling. Without sadness, we would not find joy.
