Job Description

Technical leadership

  • Understand complex applications spanning across various technologies
  • Participate in deep technical architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud
  • Provide technical Leadership within the competency centre
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise
  • Undertake proof of concepts and proof of values with the business measured to evidence ROI.
  • Undertake internal IT innovation hub items
  • Work with the Architecture team to ensure compliance to architectural principles, whilst contributing to new standards in their specialist area.
  • Underpin the competency centre vision with a low level design in line with high level architecture aspirations.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with the business to assist in delivering the vision.
  • Pivotal to creating and raising the capabilities of, a centre of knowledge respected by and relied upon by the business.
  • Assist the platforms programme manager to deliver a programme of change.
  • Deliver results to make the Competency Centre a success.
  • Assist in the technical elements of managing relationships and contracts with vendors
  • follow the release strategy in conjunction with the Programme manager including successful transitioning into BAU Support
  • Attend the Business IOT Steering Group, liaising with and integrated to the data initiatives running in the business.


  • Driving improved support through completion of operational acceptance into service measures and activities.
  • Ensuring standards are created and adopted within the competency centre for
    • Documentation: Provide documentation to the support function for support activities. Ensure design standards, templates and patterns are vetted and agreed with the Architect Review board.
    • Shift Left: Move of administrative tasks to service desk to increase first time fix.
    • Security: Adherence to security standards for access and integrity of application data with security manager.
    • Availability and capacity:   defining thresholds for monitoring and measuring in order to facilitate tactical or strategic decision making.
    • CSI: Facilitate continual service improvement within the team.


  • Undertake project work and system support as allocated by the manager. Ensure deadlines are met per IT SLA and ITIL processes.
  • Architect, design, implement, test and maintain IoT systems owned by the IoT CC
  • Operate and maintain cloud subscriptions and solutions, including message brokers, databases, analytics/AI/ML tools
  • Integration, testing and compatibility of 3rd party systems and devices
  • Design, create and maintain test environments using CI and CD tools
  • Network protocol assessment and debug, connectivity to cloud/on-premise systems of both legacy and state-of-the-art technologies
  • Database queries and scripting
  • Automation and DevOps Scripting    
  • Lead POVs, POCs from technical perspective
  • Assess Suppliers roadmap at a technical compatibility level to understand infrastructure risks and roadmap mitigations
  • Any other duties as required and directed by the IoT Competency Centre manager which are pertinent to the role.

Vendor Liaison

  • Act as the point of contact for suppliers, ensure a healthy relationship is maintained and a partnership approach is adopted.

Stakeholder management

  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement process to underpin continual service improvement.
  • Represent the IT department in a professional manner at all times
